Olly Murphy eyes more Scottish success after double on day one

Olly Murphy has sent a big team to Perth's three-day festival and he got off to a great start with a double via Jetaway Joey and World Trip.

The pair are part of a raiding party of 16 horses sent to Scotland by the Warwickshire trainer, who got on the board in the first race when Jetaway Joey won the 2m4f maiden hurdle under Aidan Coleman.

"He's been disappointing, so it was nice to see him put it all together; maybe the tongue strap has helped him and the better ground," said Murphy.

"I'd say we'll put him away for the autumn and he's one to look forward to next season."

World Trip was suspended for 40 days after the stewards at Hereford in October found conditional jockey Callum McKinnes to have deliberately failed to ride a horse on its merits.

McKinnes was hit with a 56-day ban but Murphy was not found in breach of any rules.

The mare gave Luke Scott his second career success in division one of the amateur jockeys' handicap hurdle when winning by 13 lengths.

"It's great for Luke to ride his first winner for me," said Murphy. "He's a very good young lad who's turning professional in a few months and you'll end up hearing a lot more about him."

The in-form trainer, also on the mark at Ludlow with Tinnahalla, is looking forward to two more days at the track.

"They've done a very good job of the ground, so they deserve the support they've got," he added. "It's going to be a busy few days and it's nice to get a couple of winners here."

In the second division of the amateur jockeys' handicap hurdle, Lewis Dobb celebrated his first victory on the Laura Morgan-trained Taras Day.

Mixed emotions for Kendrick

Max Kendrick rode out his claim on Hunny Moon in the 2m4f mares' handicap hurdle, but the landmark victory was tainted after he was given a nine-day ban (May 5-13) for using his whip above the permitted level.
