No fuss as Gin On Lime rattles off hat-trick for Blackmore and De Bromhead
Gin On Lime enhanced her already glowing reputation with another facile novice chase success under Rachael Blackmore, bringing up a hat-trick of wins over fences this summer.
Henry de Bromhead is a dab hand at improving hurdlers as they transition to chasing and this five-year-old, who was picked up by Brian Acheson's Robcour after a taking hurdles win in France for Guillaume Macaire, has thrived this season following wins at Killarney and Wexford.
Blackmore was pleased with an improvement in the front-runner's jumping in the 2m2f race, running out a comprehensive 12-length winner at odds of 1-4.
"She looks very nice so I'm delighted," said the winning rider. "Her best performances for us seem to be on nice ground. She seems happy at that trip."
The same trainer, owner and rider doubled up later on the card with Tune The Chello, who was a 42-length second to Gin On Lime on her previous start.
Ryan continues tremendous run
John Ryan and Danny Mullins have made a blistering start to the season, and continued their fine form with Grange Walk in the 2m2f beginners' chase.
The win was some compensation for a near miss in the previous evening's Midlands National, when runner-up Waitnsee's saddle slipped.
However, Mullins, who had just ridden win number 21 of his campaign to remain atop the jockeys' championship, was stood down for the remainder of his rides after Ryan's Summer Hill fell at the first in the following novice chase.
Bryan Cooper was the beneficiary in picking up a winning spare ride aboard the impressive Fairyhill Run, with Ryan now targeting the Galway Blazers Handicap Chase for the 14-length winner of the 2m6f handicap chase.
Druid's delight for Slevin and O'Brien
Useful four-year-old Druid's Altar may be Ballybrit-bound – with the option of the Grade 3 Rockshore Novice Chase - after a game performance to see off Turnpike Trip in the 2m3½f beginners' chase for JJ Slevin and Joseph O'Brien.
Stewards step in to declare non-runner
Limerick's stewards stepped in to declare Fenlon's Hill a non-runner after the Paul Stafford-trained ten-year-old turned the opposite direction just as the rest of the field started.
The decision was taken on the basis of rule 209, which states: "Any horse that has not started in a race, due to a starting stalls malfunction or starter error, may be declared a non-runner by the stewards."
The matter was also referred to the IHRB chief executive for consideration.
