There were no signs of sibling rivalry in the Topham Handicap Chase at Aintree as James Bowen dusted himself off after a crashing fall to cheer on his brother Sean as he stretched clear aboard Mac Tottie.

James Bowen took an early tumble from Fantastic Lady but was seen watching the big screen and cheering his brother up the straight before running to embrace him during his interview with ITV Racing.

Mac Tottie, who won the Grand Sefton last year, stretched four and a half lengths clear of 25-1 shot Batcio for the jockeys' father and trainer Peter Bowen, who celebrated his fifth success in the Topham.

"That's brilliant – I can't talk," said Sean Bowen, fighting back the tears. "Dad is a brilliant trainer. He had him prepared for the Grand Sefton in November and today. He knows how to get one ready.

"To do it for your family is different. It's amazing to ride big winners but I can't put into words what it means to do it for your parents."

It was another big-race success for Sean Bowen, who won the Scottish Champion Hurdle at Ayr this month aboard Anna Bunina. The winning jockey let out a huge cheer after crossing the line and recording his 16th Graded success, having won his first in 2015.

He was crowned champion conditional jockey following the 2014-15 season, while brother James claimed the title in 2017-18.
