'It’s nice to set that record straight' - Boyle relieved to break Lingfield run
Thursday: Lingfield
Sparked ended Jim Boyle's recent Lingfield woes with a first victory at the Surrey track for the Epsom trainer in 288 days and 30 runners.
The three-year-old was well beaten at Southwell last week but returned to form with a half-length success in the 5f handicap under Hector Crouch, who replaced the suspended Cieren Fallon.
Boyle was eager to praise The Clean Sweep Partnership-owned filly and said: “I’m delighted she’s bounced back from Southwell last week, which was pretty disappointing.
"I have no idea what went wrong there, she just ran flat on the day. I’d love to be able to put my finger on what it was. I’ve done very little with her since, just freshened her up and she’s done it nicely.”
Boyle was pleased to banish memories of his barren run at Lingfield. He said: “It’s not a case of the horses not liking the track, we’ve just not had a lot of luck there. It's nice to set that record straight.”
Better late than never
Kingori took his record to 2-2 in the mile restricted novice, with the race off 20 minutes behind schedule after many of the runners misbehaved in the stalls.
The Simon and Ed Crisford-trained three-year-old was a second winner for Jack Mitchell, who landed the 1m4f handicap on Sonnerie Power for Roger Varian.
