'It's given us a boost' - 100-1 winner lifts spirits for Barnes family
Roma Bangkok defied his 100-1 SP to deliver a memorable win for Maurice and Anne Barnes.
The five-year-old’s success under Ross Chapman delivered a much-needed lift for the Barnes yard, which has endured a hard winter.
The couple are still recovering from a house fire in October which has seen them counting the days until they can move back home.
Anne Barnes said: "It’s really given us a boost today because you need one now and then. It’s been a long winter and really hard work. This has really lifted our spirits.

"Nobody would have expected it but we don’t pay too much attention to the odds. We just think if they run well then we’re happy, and if they don’t then we haven’t lost anything.
"Maurice has taken his time and used his knowledge, and we always thought there was something there."
The couple were unable to be at Sedgefield to celebrate the win as they were receiving their second Covid vaccinations.
"We would have loved to have been there," Barnes added, "but we watched it together on the television and we were both absolutely delighted. I hate missing winners!"
Snowed In delivers for a decade
Snowed In proved a popular winner of the 2m1f handicap hurdle over a decade after he broke his maiden at Kempton.
The 12-year-old grey now has ten victories to his name, six of which have come for trainer Barbara Butterworth.
Ridden by son-in-law Sean Quinlan, Snowed In is also owned by Butterworth’s daughter, Elizabeth.
Butterworth said: "I couldn’t believe he won it and in the manner he did. We’ve had him since he was five, and a yard favourite is probably an understatement!
"He just enjoys life so much here, and Sean and Liz always want to ride him at home even though he’s not an easy ride.
"I’m at home looking after their 12-week-old daughter and I woke her up screaming him up that hill at Sedgefield."
Snowed In won four times as a two-year-old for trainer Stan Moore in 2011 and since joining Butterworth three years later has won races in 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2020 and now 2021.
