Impressive Ziggy has Harry Eustace dreaming of John Smith's Cup success

Harry Eustace has discussed the possibility of a John Smith’s Cup entry for Ziggy following his second career win in the 1m2f handicap.

The four-year-old struck by three and a half lengths on his first start since October, beating the Ralph Beckett-trained Vulcan.

Eustace said: "I've always hoped he could put a performance like that together. We learned a lot about him last year, both regarding the ground and trip.

"At Goodwood last year he threatened to be very competitive and he has matured well from three to four. He would probably need to win again for something like the John Smith’s, but it's the sort of race which would suit him."

Eustace is not in a hurry to return to the track with his four-year-old, who he believes is a different horse on better ground.

"I won’t look to run him back quickly, but he looks able to run in competitive Saturday handicaps at either a mile and a quarter, or a mile and a half in time."

Smart Sense

William Haggas enjoyed a fine Friday afternoon as Sense Of Duty landed the Listed 6f Cecil Frail.

Sense Of Duty, a general 14-1 shot for the Commonwealth Cup, stretched her winning run to three under Cieren Fallon but may not head to the royal meeting next.

Haggas, who enjoyed an across-the-card treble with two wins at Goodwood, said: "I was thrilled with her. She's done well and is an improving filly. She's won a Listed race now, but I haven't spoken to anyone at Haydock and I'd have thought Royal Ascot would be too much too soon."
