Friday: Ascot

Connections of Oh This Is Us hailed their popular performer as a "star" after the nine-year-old ended a 17-race losing streak with a narrow victory in the mile classified stakes.

Without a win since landing the Diomed Stakes in June 2021, the Team Wallop-owned runner defied his outsider status and picked up his 17th career success when victorious by a head under Tom Marquand.

Winning trainer Richard Hannon told Sky Sports Racing: "He's a very special horse to me. I'll probably not get to train a horse like him again. He's done an awful lot for us.

"It's been a while since he won, but he's so talented. He's a little genius and I couldn't believe he was 14-1, that was a massive price."

It was a ninth win on Oh This Is Us for Marquand, who first scored on the gelding when a 3lb apprentice in 2016.

"He's a horse that puts a smile on your face. What a star he is and it's pretty ridiculous he's still going," he said. "Fair play to everyone for keeping him in top order and it's a pleasure to be aboard him."

Marquand completed a 97-1 double on Dubai Mirage in the mile handicap.

Classy filly

Fillies' Mile entry Alseyoob could be targeted at some of the top juvenile contests this autumn following her impressive win in the mile fillies' novice.

Winning trainer Ismail Mohammed said: "We feel she's a Group filly but she didn't show that at Newmarket. God willing she has the ability to run well in those higher-class races."
