'I couldn't believe the price' - Chapple-Hyam collects as 16-1 Bharani Star wins

Trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam was among the winning punters after the Listed British Stallion Studs EBF Rothesay Stakes as his Bharani Star came home a comfortable winner under Paul Hanagan.

The Fairlawns Racing-owned filly finished fourth in the Ribblesdale last season and ran in the Oaks but was sent off an unconsidered 16-1 for her seasonal debut dropping back in trip to ten furlongs.

Chapple-Hyam, who was recording his first winner since July, said: "I couldn't believe the price. She was fourth in a Ribblesdale and at one stage she was the 20-1 outsider. I'm not a betting man but I had £10 each-way – that's me!"

The four-year-old came from off the pace to pounce on the prominently-ridden A La Voile to win by a length and three quarters, with that filly eventually fading into third behind the Jessica Harrington-trained Astadash.

Chapple-Hyam added: "I'm delighted for her. She'll have needed that, she'll improve. She'll stay a mile and a half but I wanted to go a mile and a quarter first time out.

"Paul said if she hadn't got tired she'd have won a lot easier. We'll slowly step up to Group 3s and work our way up. We're just going to play it by ear and see how she is."

It was a second victory for Bharani Star, who finished eighth in the Galtres Stakes at York on her final start at three.

Anastarsia was pulled up sharply in the opening stages and subsequently assessed by vets in the stableyard.
