Monday: Chepstow

William Buick had not ridden a winner at the track in 28 previous rides but ended that drought in style with a double.

Buick, riding at the course for the first time since 2011, notched his first winner on the David O'Meara-trained Autumn Festival, who bolted up by nine lengths in the 7f handicap.

"I couldn't believe that," Buick said about not having had a winner at Chepstow. "28 rides I got told, so I'm glad to get that winner."

Unlike Buick, O'Meara has found success more forthcoming at the track with Autumn Festival making it five winners from his last five runners there.

"We've not long started running horses down there because it's a long way to travel, but there's been some races down there that suited our horses, so we've sent them," O'Meara said. "It's fine when you're winning."

He added: "Autumn Festival was very impressive. He might have appreciated a bit of cut in the ground as he seemed to like conditions there today."

Buick's day got better when he steered the 1-16 favourite Night Battle to victory in the mile fillies' novice and now just needs a win at Musselburgh to have had a winner at every Flat track in Britain.

Double delight

Jockey Gina Mangan recorded her first double and was even more pleased as it came at her local track.

Victory was never in doubt on Macs Dilemma, who won the opening 7f handicap by three and a quarter lengths. A determined ride up the rail from Mangan on Fossos, trained six miles from the course by Deborah Faulkner, in the 5f classified stakes made it a day to remember.
