'He’s got an awful lot of ability' - Olly Murphy delighted with Storm success
Sunday: Uttoxeter
Olly Murphy was successful with another smart juvenile when the “enigma” Storm Of Light landed the 2m4f maiden hurdle.
The five-year-old, getting off the mark under rules at the third attempt, has been a talented but challenging horse for the Warwickshire-based trainer.
“He’s been nothing short of a handful to train in the last 18 months,” Murphy told Sky Sports Racing.
“I like this lad but he's an enigma – he could do anything in the mornings.”
Carrying the colours of Diana Whateley and ridden by Fergus Gregory, the 5-2 shot travelled strongly and a mistake at the last could not stop him pulling two and a half lengths clear of 5-6 favourite Fine Casting.
“He’s got an awful lot of ability and I think Ben Pauling's horse [Fine Casting] is a nice one, so I think it'll prove to be a good race,” added Murphy.
“Grahame and Diana Whateley are starting to build up a team of lovely horses with me and he’s a nice one for the future."
Tip Top victory for Best
Jockey James Best punched the air in celebration after guiding 16-1 shot Tip Top Mountain to a one-length success for trainer Robert Walford in the 2m4f handicap chase.
The pair almost parted company after blundering at the third-last fence and Best told Sky Sports Racing: “It was a relief to sit tight on him three out and then he stuck his head down and galloped to the line. You're either up or you're down in this game and you have to enjoy the good days.”
