'He looks a nice prospect' - Cobblers Dream shows rivals a clean pair of heels

After sadly losing two of their stable stars to fatal injuries on the track last year, Ben Case and owner Lady Jane Grosvenor may have found an immediate replacement in Cobblers Dream, who waltzed to victory on his first start for the yard in the 2m novice hurdle.

Cobblers Dream was bought for £85,000 after winning a Cork bumper in April to fill the void left by Kings Temptation – a six-time winner – and 2019 Cheltenham Festival winner Croco Bay.

Cobblers Dream easily dismissed his rivals by six and a half lengths under Jonathan Burke, and Case said: “It’s been good and bad [for the owner] because we lost a couple of horses, but they did us very proud at the same time. He looks a nice prospect and she [Lady Grosvenor] deserves it.

“Only time will tell how good he is, but he’s done it well there and that’s what we expected. We’ll tick away in novice hurdles for now before giving him a break over the winter.”

Bowen benefits

Nico de Boinville suffered a bruising afternoon as he was stood down after being hurled from the saddle on Crystal Gazing when the six-year-old ducked left into the railing before the fifth flight in the 2m3f mares' handicap hurdle.

His misfortune was to Sean Bowen’s gain as he picked up De Boinville’s ride on the Nicky Henderson-trained Haul Away in the 3m1½f handicap chase and the pair battled to a game front-running success – a second of the day for Bowen after he struck earlier on Sir Tivo in the 2m novice handicap chase.

De Boinville was reported to be “a bit sore” but nothing more serious by raceday clerk of the course Tom Ryall.
