'He couldn't even walk' - Perfect Soldier maintains miracle recovery under Davis
Sometimes it takes an old friend to motivate you to get back to your best and the partnership between Perfect Soldier and Sean Davis perfectly encapsulated that following their victory in the 7f handicap.
The duo first teamed up for success at Galway in August 2017 when Davis was a 7lb claimer, and the seven-year-old, who had since suffered severe health issues, claimed his first victory since then at this track earlier this month with Davis once more on top.
Perfect Soldier's narrow win here was particularly emotional for trainer Wilf Storey, who has nurtured the gelding back to his best.
Storey said: "Just about every time he's run he's had a different jockey. When Covid-19 started, Sean went back to Ireland and wasn't able to ride him. Sean knows him and gets a good tune out of him.
"When the horse came to me he couldn't even walk, he couldn't even lay down for a month. Now he's banging the door in the morning for his feed.
"He's a very happy horse now. I love to get them going and win races with them."
Ginty returns to winning ways
It took over a year, but Musselburgh seems to be the place for Gometra Ginty, who took the mile handicap for Keith Dalgleish.
The five-year-old mare won her first race since September 2019 over the same course and distance as her last success.
