Haizoom storms to Gold Cup success for in-form Keith Dalgleish
Keith Dalgleish took the spoils in the Class 3 Musselburgh Gold Cup as Haizoom held off Ravenscraig Castle to bring up a treble on the day for the trainer.
The 8-1 shot came from last to first to get the better of Melrose third Ravenscraig Castle to land the £15,462 first prize by three-quarters of a length.
The three-year-old defied a significant step up in class under James Sullivan, having scored in Class 6 company on her most recent run at Ripon in August.
Haizoom capped off a stellar day at the track for the Dalgleish team which was kickstarted by Gometra Ginty’s victory in the mile fillies’ handicap.
The 7-4 favourite made all to score by a length under Callum Rodriguez to secure her fifth course win.
The victory was also the fifth success this season for Gometra Ginty, who was scoring off a career-high mark.
Rodriguez was on board once more when Three Castles brought up the second leg of the Dalgleish treble in the 1m6f handicap, the five-year-old benefiting from a first-time visor to score by three-quarters of a length from De Mazzaro to complete a double for Gometra Ginty’s owner Ken McGarrity.
Gamble landed
An early-morning gamble paid off in the fillies’ conditions stakes as Fast Response came home a ready winner under Jason Hart.
The Karl Burke-trained two-year-old was securing her second win at the course after being backed into 15-8 (from 6-1), producing a strong turn of foot to score comfortably.
Hart brought up a quickfire double on Gweedore in the mile handicap for trainer Katie Scott.
