Fizzy Feet gets the bubbly flowing again for owner Dave Lowe

There is a bar named after Dave Lowe's sprinting legend Kachy at the Surrey track and the Lancashire-based owner was raising a glass again after Fizzy Feet landed a gamble in the feature.

The bottomweight was available at 11-1 in the morning, but was cut to 5-1 by the off in the 6f handicap, in which she duly made all under Rossa Ryan.

The five-year-old mare, trained by Dave Loughnane, extended her record at the track to five wins in nine starts by holding the late thrust of Brian The Snail.

Ryan said: "She was on a winnable mark, so it was just a case of getting her out from her draw in stall one. She likes it here and she killed them off the bend, and then coasted up the straight. Fair play to Dave Loughnane, who has his team in great shape at the minute."

Yarmy in the money

William Jarvis got off the mark for 2021 with just his third runner when Duke Of Verona scored at 33-1 in the closing 1m2f novice stakes.

The three-year-old, who was competing a double for jockey David Probert, was put into the stalls for his debut by legendary horse whisperer Steve 'Yarmy' Dyble.

Dyble said: "William said he fancied him a bit and I had £2 each-way on. He pricked his ears passing the post and was professional at the start."

Probert, who had earlier scored on Buy Me Back in the 5f handicap, was registering four winners across two days at the track.

Mr Mac back on track

Mr Mac was so well before the opening mile handicap that Hollie Doyle had to mount him in the chute prior to heading to post.

The opposition also found the topweight a handful in the race itself, in which he registered a fourth course-and-distance success at the expense of Hunters Step.

The 11-4 favourite was returning from a 40-day break, but may be kept busy after his latest triumph.

Trainer Simon Hodgson said: "I got a bit greedy and ran him back a bit quick here in December when he ran a bit flat, but he's back in business today. He's in a race at Kempton next week, which I may run him in under a penalty."

Norton off the mark

Franny Norton struck on just his second day of race-riding in 2021 when Fred made all to register a first success since his juvenile days in the 7f handicap.

The Liverpudlian spent Christmas and New Year in sunnier climes, following which he had to quarantine after passing a routine Covid test.

He said: "You have to take a break when you can and I went with the family to the Maldives and stopped off in Dubai on the way back. That's a great start to the year for me."

An easy-to-back 11-2 chance, Fred held off the persistent challenge of Inevitable Outcome to score for red-hot trainer Mark Johnston.
