Thursday: Yarmouth

Ananda was the pick of the females on show on ladies' day at the Norfolk track when scoring at the second attempt in division one of the 6f fillies' novice stakes.

John and Thady Gcosden were on target for the second day running at the three-day Eastern festival when the Frankel filly comfortably held Pinafore under Robert Havlin.

The 5-4 favourite was dropping back in trip after her debut fourth over seven furlongs at Newmarket last month and was cut to 40-1 (from 50) by Paddy Power for next year's Qipco 1,000 Guineas.

The €525,000 purchase could well go back up in trip on this evidence and something like the Group 3 Oh So Sharp Stakes at Newmarket next month could be on her radar.

Thady Gosden said: "Ananda overraced a bit in deep ground at Newmarket first time out and has handled a drop back in trip well there, although she could go back up to seven furlongs in time.

"She was well bought by Charlie Gordon Watson at Arqana Sales last year and she could well have another run this year."

Beauty for bookies

There was a second big-priced winner of the festival when Premiere Beauty struck at 80-1 under Dylan Hogan in division two of the 6f fillies' novice stakes.

The daughter of Churchill was twice the price of Dance Havana, who scored at 40-1 on Tuesday, but the win was no surprise to her trainer Stuart Williams to whom she is a landmark horse already.

He said: "Premiere Beauty is the most expensive yearling I've been ever sent at 160,000gns so there was a bit of pressure on. It was no surprise despite her price and I've had 100-1 winners in the past.

"She's very much a next year filly so we won't rush her back after this. Her owner Ron Watts is a breeder so black type would be the ultimate goal."

More for Moore

The mile maiden was won by subsequent Listed winner Mighty Ulysses in 2021 and this year's winner Glenfinnan could be on a similar trajectory after scoring at the third attempt under Ryan Moore.

Moore kept things simple on the 4-6 favourite by making all the running to head a 1-2-3 in market order with Maasai Mara (5-2) second and Vaguely Royal (6-1) third.

The Andrew Balding-trained winner had finished second in the prestigious Convivial Maiden at York over seven furlongs and enjoyed the step up to a mile despite being by the sprinter Harry Angel.

Moore went on to double up when making all on the Michael Bell-trained 5-2 market leader Bellstreet Bridie in the 1m3½f fillies handicap.

Assistant winning trainer Nick Bell said: "She really has got her confidence now and although she's in the sales, the owners may want to keep her."

Fisher nets another winner

Apprentice Taylor Fisher landed his 13th winner of the season when steering the well-backed topweight First Folio home in the 6f handicap.

The 17-year-old, who is attached to Archie Watson, was riding his first winner for James Ferguson on the grey who was dropping in class.

Fisher, fresh from a 28-1 winner at Beverley on Wednesday, said: "Things are going well and Paul Clarke my agent is doing a good job. First Folio was the class horse in the race and did it nicely."
