Conditional jockey Daire Davis delivers with winner on his first ride in Britain

Conditional jockey Daire Davis struck with his first ride in Britain as he guided Made For You to success in the midst of a snowstorm in the 1m7½f handicap hurdle, before the atrocious weather conditions forced the abandonment of the card before the final race.

Davis, whose brother Sean rides on the Flat in Ireland, was last seen in the winner's enclosure in April 2019 after steering the Thomas Coyle-trained Georgian Bay to victory on the all-weather at Dundalk.

However Davis, who also rode a winner for Jim Bolger on the Flat, has his sights set on a career over obstacles, with a delighted winning trainer Olly Murphy explaining: "He's a nice young lad who's been with me for six months. He rides well and he's going to get opportunities aplenty.

Murphy, whose Tinanahalla chased home the winner with another conditional Lewis Stones aboard to complete a one-two, added: "I've got another young Irish lad, Gearoid Harney, who rode this horse on his last start so it's nice to have these good young lads coming through. It's healthy for them all to have competition.

"Fergus Gregory is not far away from riding out his claim now and they all kind of look up to him and see the kind of chances he's got over the past few years. If they're good enough they're going to get chances."

Davis would have been relieved that the race was run before conditions were deemed unraceable with racing abandoned before the mares' handicap hurdle which had been due to conclude the card.

Murphy’s only other runner on a freezing cold afternoon also struck via the more experienced hands of Aidan Coleman, who steered debutant Parliament Hill to victory in the juvenile maiden hurdle to complete a superb weekend for owner Diana Whateley.

Welcome winner

Dual-purpose trainer John Jenkins, who is enjoying his best season on the Flat for five years, landed a first winner over jumps for 1,575 days with Ace Time successful over hurdles for the first time at the ninth attempt under another conditional, Ben Godfrey.
