Boughey targets return to Group company for Oscula after Listed triumph
Wednesday: Carlisle
Oscula returned to winning form with a dominant success in the Listed British Stallion Studs EBF Eternal Stakes for trainer George Boughey.
The daughter of Galileo Gold was sent off 15-8 favourite and powered clear to land the feature contest by two lengths.
It was a welcome return to the winner's enclosure for the three-year-old, who was Boughey's first Group winner when landing the Prix Six Perfections at Deauville last August.
Oscula was a length second in the Listed Surrey Stakes on her first start since running in the Saudi Derby, but delivered a decisive performance to get off the mark for the season under Ben Curtis.
"It was good to see her back to nearly her best," Boughey said. "She had a tough winter going to Saudi; she's only a small filly and the dirt didn't suit her.
"She had a good break afterwards and ran very well at Epsom. She was a little fresh that day, otherwise she might have won, but Ben gave her a nice ride here and she got the job done.
"She'll probably step up to Group 3 company again on her next start. There's the Thoroughbred Stakes at Goodwood over a mile. She's not in the Lennox unfortunately, but there's also the Valiant Stakes at Ascot."
That success completed a double for Curtis, who earlier landed the Cumberland Plate on the Hugo Palmer-trained Commonsensical.
Invincible Burke
The historic Carlisle Bell went to Invincibly, who continued the flying form of trainer Karl Burke with a third career success.
The four-year-old scored by a length and a quarter to add to Burke's recent successes, with the trainer landing two Royal Ascot victories as well as the Listed Land O'Burns Fillies' Stakes last week.
