'Big boots to fill' - shades of Song For Someone in Tom Symonds juvenile

Tom Symonds could have another Song For Someone on his hands after Hystery Bere, who shares the same owners and upbringing as the Champion Hurdle contender, made a breakthrough success for the stable under Aidan Coleman.

The four-year-old runs in the colours of Sir Peter and Lady Gibbings, owners of Song For Someone, who is set to run in the Kingwell Hurdle at Wincanton on Saturday. Like his stablemate, Hystery Bere was trained in France by Joel Boisnard.

Hystery Bere was second on his first start for the yard at Sandown last month but never looked like being caught this time, bounding six lengths clear of Albert Van Ornum.

"He's got big boots to fill," said Symonds. "He's quite immature but Aidan said he'd basically cantered around and his jumping was very quick. It's great to have another nice prospect for the owners."

Hystery Bere was cut to 20-1 (from 25) for the Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, but Symonds is unsure over his next engagement.

"We've not confirmed plans but it's unlikely he'll go for the Boodles, he said. "We may try to keep the mileage low and save him for next year."

Course specialists

Cheque En Blanc dug deep under a top ride from Josh Moore to land the 2m5½f handicap chase and secure a double for Gary Moore, who has been the top trainer at the track during the past five years.

The nine-year-old joined 2-1 favourite The Crooner in the lead three out and stayed on powerfully for a narrow length-and-a-quarter success.

Golden Boy Grey opened Moore's account in the 2m3f novice hurdle, recording his second win in three starts when beating Drakes Well.
