Razzle Dazzle took centre stage on the penultimate day of action in 2021 on the July course, where a crowd of 16,000 is expected to see McFly play on Saturday.

Trainer Richard Hannon stayed away due to the busy Bank Holiday weekend roads but it was all one-way traffic in the 7f novice stakes in which the son of Muhaarar romped home under Andrea Atzeni.

The five-and-a-half length triumph paid compliment to Godolphin's expensive colt Hafit, who had accounted for the winner on their respective debuts at the track three weeks ago.

Atzeni said: "He ran well behind a nice one of Charlie Appleby's first time and we knew the form was good as the third has won since. I made the most of his experience and he did that nicely. He's a seven-furlong horse for now but he'll get a mile next year."

The colt is owned and bred by Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum and holds entries for Group races in the autumn.

Atzeni later doubled up in the famous yellow and black silks when Cairn Island landed the closing three-year-old 6f handicap for Kevin Ryan.

Ten-year Romance

A decade after her dam Lyric Of Light won the opening 7f juvenile contest for fillies, Silk Romance followed suit in impressive fashion when storming home under William Buick.

The daughter of Shamardal gave trainer Charlie Appleby a 15th winner of the season on the July course when making all to score by five and a half lengths.

Silk Romance holds an entry in the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes on the neighbouring Rowley Mile next month.

Alex Merriam, assistant to Appleby, said of the 4-6 chance: "If Silk Romance can follow her family tree it would be nice and William was very happy with her. Having a bit of experience helped and she did it very nicely when she hit the rising ground."

Silk Romance was given an opening quote of 25-1 by Ladbrokes for next year's Qipco 1,000 Guineas.

Hot To Trot

The Hot To Trot Racing syndicate extended their good run for 2021 when Mille Miglia did things the hard way under Adam Kirby in the 1m2f fillies' handicap.

The 11-4 favourite made all and pulled out more when challenged in the Dip by eventual runner-up First Dance to score at the sixth attempt.

The syndicate has to produce three booklets to cover all their stock, some of which is with successful trainer Clive Cox.

Representative Georgina Bell said: "We've had a brilliant year already and it was great for this filly to get her head in front at last."

Busman Murphy

Oisin Murphy was in the Qatar Racing camp but not in their silks at the summer venue on Friday as he spent the afternoon with his employer Sheikh Fahad.

The reigning champion jockey was on hand to get the debrief from Cieren Fallon and Richard Kingscote after the first race in which Kingscote fared best when finishing third on Oheka.

Murphy said: "I'm banned today but it's great to be here and I'm looking forward to Goodwood when I ride Benbatl in the Celebration Mile tomorrow."
