Newmarket Academy Godolphin Beacon Project Cornwallis Stakes (Group 3) | 5f | 2yo | ITV4/RTV

Speed is of the essence in this sprint for juveniles and, while the form of the Flying Childers at Doncaster was open to question going into last weekend, there are no doubts over it now.

Runner-up The Platinum Queen ploughed through the mud to land the Prix de l’Abbaye at Longchamp on Sunday and the sixth and eighth home at Doncaster, Funny Money Honey and Malrescia, went on to fill the first two positions in a Listed race at Dundalk next time.

So why is this all important? Crispy Cat and Prince Of Pillo finished third and fourth in the Flying Childers, with the latter giving the form further substance by landing the Listed Harry Rosebery Stakes at Ayr since. So, can he reverse Doncaster places this time?

The weights would suggest not as the pair are on the same terms here, but Prince Of Pillo did get a bump early at Doncaster and he might have improved since too.

It’s a fascinating rematch between them and Ryan Moore’s presence on Crispy Cat is eyecatching. Moore is having just his second ride for Michael O’Callaghan, so that may be a pointer.

There are a few in this line-up who appear to have lost their way, starting with Maylandsea.

She looked like a smart prospect when finishing second to Dramatised in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot, but has suffered three heavy defeats since. However, her latest seventh behind Lezoo in the Cheveley Park here a couple of weeks ago was a step back in the right direction.

The other horse who had some solid early season form is Lost Angel. She looked very good when winning at Nottingham in April on her second start, but went backwards on her next three outings. She did show more in handicap company at York’s Ebor meeting, but has again disappointed since and isn’t the most reliable. The ability is there somewhere though.

What they say

Philip Robinson, racing manager to Sheikh Rashid Dalmook Al Maktoum, owner of Clearpoint
He's unlikely to run if the ground continues to dry out as he disappointed on a quick surface at York last time.

Mike Prince, spokesperson for Middleham Park Racing, owners of Prince Of Pillo
Obviously he has to turn the form around with a few in the race from the Flying Childers at Doncaster, but he got hampered that day and had excuses. If he performs like he did when winning at Ayr last time we expect him to be very competitive again. Especially as the second that day, Bolt Action, has since won a conditions race at Salisbury.

Alice Haynes, trainer of Remarkable Force
He deserves to take his chance in the race. A stiff five furlongs and a strongly run race will be right up his street.

Tom Clover, trainer of Rogue Spirit
He wasn't overly expensive and he's won three races for us. He won nicely last time and, while we're really jumping him up in grade, I hope he can run a solid race. Fingers crossed he'll be there or thereabouts.

Karl Burke, trainer of Lady Hamana
We finished just a neck behind Prince Of Pillo last time, but we are 40-1 and he's a hot favourite. I can't believe the odds and I expect our filly to outrun them.

Michael Bell, trainer of Maylandsea
We took her out of the Two Year Old Trophy at Redcar when the ground went soft as she prefers a quick surface. It was a no-brainer to come here after that and she will be better suited to five furlongs here than the six that day.
