The names of great milers from the last 50 years or so roll relentlessly off the tongue.

In no particular order, I can list Frankel, Winx, Warning, Dancing Brave, Nijinsky, Brigadier Gerard, Goldikova, Rock Of Gibraltar, Canford Cliffs, Zafonic, Kingman, Miesque, Kris, and Zilzal. Apologies for those I have missed.

Many on that list were specialist milers; others were champions who had the ability to produce an exceptional level of ability at different trips.
