James Burn, Lambourn correspondent Paul Nicholls’ formidable record in the race means his pair – Capeland and Grand Sancy – merit respect, but Pistol Whipped is open to improvement after just five starts over fences and his only run this term at Kempton last time was a solid effort. He’s entitled to come on for that outing and should enjoy conditions.

Brian Ellison, trainer I wouldn’t put anyone off our runner Windsor Avenue. He’s run some good races this season without getting his head in front. We’re putting on cheekpieces and a tongue-strap and hopefully they can make a difference.

Padraig Hassett, BoyleSports It’s a wide-open renewal. Gala Ball is a working man’s price and is easy to make a case for. He loves Newbury, has run well in the race in the past, the return to better ground should suit and with the yard hitting some form he looks overpriced.
