'The track should really suit him' - can the top-rated favourite show his class?

Saturday: 1.50 Doncaster
SBK Cammidge Trophy Stakes (Listed) | 6f | 3yo+ | ITV/Sky

The minimum Racing Post Rating handed to the winner of the Cammidge Trophy over the last decade has been 110 and only three of the seven sprinters in this field have run to that figure.

Bielsa recorded an RPR of 110 with a decisive triumph in the Ayr Gold Cup in September but fell short when upped in class for his remaining two runs of the campaign.

He is an admirable and talented yardstick but might be caught between a rock and a hard place off his mark of 105.

The Kevin Ryan-trained seven-year-old is probably rated too high to be winning top sprint handicaps but lacks the ability to strike in a decent-quality Listed race. He may need a reprieve from the handicapper.

Diligent Harry (RPR 112) is arguably the best long-term prospect in the field but any ground with 'soft' in the description would be unfavourable for the son of Due Diligence.

He was kept to synthetic surfaces for his first five starts by Clive Cox and only made his turf debut in July, losing by a neck to subsequent Sprint Cup fourth Happy Romance.

His subsequent disappointing run in Ascot's Bengough Stakes on soft ground can be forgiven as it presented a completely different set of circumstances for one so inexperienced. He is better judged on previous efforts and remains unexposed for a trainer who excels with sprinters.

The more the ground at Doncaster dries out, the more interesting Diligent Harry becomes as a betting proposition.

Garrus (RPR 114) finished within four lengths of the winner in three Group 1 sprints last term and brings the best form to the table.

He also has an exceptional record fresh, with form figures of 1121 following breaks of 50 days or more.

The market has it right with Garrus as favourite but don't be surprised to see Diligent Harry usurp him as market leader if the track rides quick.

What they say

Adam Ryan, assistant to Kevin Ryan, trainer of Bielsa and Justanotherbottle
It was great for Bielsa to get his head in front in a big race last year when he won the Ayr Gold Cup. This is a good starting point for him for the season as he's come to hand nice and early and is in good form. Justanotherbottle took his form to another level last season and his last three runs were arguably the best of his life. He's bordering on this grade, as his second in the Beverley Bullet showed.

Charlie Hills, trainer of Garrus
I'm pleased with him and the track should really suit him. The ground seems to be drying out, which will be in his favour, and we're happy with how he is for the start of the season.

Antony Brittain, trainer of Mondammej
This is not really his trip, he's shown his best form at five furlongs, but if he can perform well over this distance it will open more options for him this year. I'm a bit surprised the ground is described as being on the soft side of good, so hopefully it'll dry up before the race. He's got a bit to find on the bare form but he's in good order.

Adrian Nicholls, trainer of Mo Celita
She's in great form and seems really well in herself. She looks like a proper sprinter and has put on a good bit of muscle through the winter. This is just a starting point for her and hopefully the ground will be okay. I think she'll run well anyway as she doesn't know how to run a bad race.
