Saturday live: Petite Power the one for money in Midlands National

Petite Power has been a noticeable market mover for the Marstons 61 Deep Midlands Grand National (3.35), the highlight of Saturday's ITV4 coverage at Uttoxeter.

The Staffordshire course stages four races live on the channel, with 14 runners set to go to post for the stamina-sapping 4m2f contest, including Ladbrokes Trophy winner De Rasher Counter.

It has been relatively quiet in the betting market but the Fergal O’Brien-trained Petite Power has shortened into 5-1 from 13-2.

The Midlands Grand National is set to be run on heavy ground following overnight rain.

Uttoxeter's clerk of the course Eloise Quayle said: "We had 5mm of rain overnight and as a result we are now heavy all over from heavy, soft in places. We will continue to monitor the situation but it's going to be testing ground whichever way you look at it."

The ITV4 cameras are also at Kempton for a further four races, where the going is good to soft, soft in places.

Kempton's clerk of the course Barney Clifford said: "The course had 4mm of rain last night but it has dried up now and the forecast is for the remainder of the morning and afternoon to be dry but overcast."

The Grade 3 EBF Paddy Power Novices’ Handicap Hurdle Final (2.05), which has been rescheduled from last Saturday’s cancelled Sandown card, looks a strong betting heat with Eden Du Houx the subject of some early money. He is as short as 13-2 having been available at 11-1 last night.

Others well backed at Kempton include Fidelio Vallis (9-5 from 5-2) and Manvers House (also 11-8 from 9-4) in the opening novice hurdle (1.00). There has been money for both Legal Eyes (7-2 from 9-2) and Solomon Grey (15-2 from 16-1) in the Paddy Power Silver Bowl Handicap Chase (3.15).

Later on the card there is plenty of interest in Flic Ou Voyou, who has been trimmed to 100-30 from 9-2 in the 2m4f novice hurdle.

Playing up their winnings?

Gordon Elliott, fresh from a memorable Cheltenham, has a couple of runners at Newcastle and one of them – Robin Deuz Pois – has been backed off the boards to win the 2m7½f handicap chase (2.35). He is now as short as 4-6 having been a 5-2 chance yesterday.

Other movers include Polish (4-1 from 6-1) in the 3.45, Stoney Rover (5-2 from 5-1) in the 4.20 and Kauto D’Amour (2-1 from 5-1) in the 4.55.

At Fontwell, Nikap (13-2 from 16-1) has been the one for money in the 2.15 and Galtee Mountain (5-4 from 11-4) is well backed in the 3.25.
