Newmarket tips: two 1,000 Guineas contenders who could outrun their odds
If the Qipco 2,000 Guineas had a wide-open look to it, the same cannot be said about the fillies' equivalent at Newmarket on Sunday.
The dogs have been barking, birds tweeting and Aidan O'Brien purring about the talent of once-raced maiden winner Santa Barbara, the red-hot fancy for the Qipco 1,000 Guineas (3.40).
However, she lacks experience and race sharpness, so can something cause a shock at her expense? We take a look at two contenders.
Eminent was not far away in Classics for Martyn Meade, who will have plenty of belief in securing his biggest win with Statement.
She was a short-head second to Alcohol Free in the Fred Darling and is entitled to come on for that in terms of fitness. Stepping up to a mile can only help too.
A heavy ground winner at Newbury last season, Statement might prefer easier going, but has had four runs, which should stand her in good stead.
Charlie Fellowes is not shy of talking up his horses and seemed chuffed with the way Vadream exercised in Newmarket under Jamie Spencer this week.
He believes she has claims of making the frame and she needs to reverse Fred Darling form with Statement and Alcohol Free, but that was only her second start and she has come out of it well.
The trip might be a question mark, but Vadream finished nicely enough over 7f at Newbury and top jockey Jamie Spencer may be able to coax some extra stamina out of her.
Fast ground ought not to trouble the daughter of Brazen Beau either.
