Newmarket Tips

Our experts pick their selections for each race on the first day of the July Festival at Newmarket to help you find more winners

12:10 bet365 Handicap - Future Investment

Yuri Gagarin, trying to make it three wins from three starts, has the clearest potential but this handicap debut off a mark of 95 asks a much more serious question. Several of his rivals look solid propositions and it is not easy to choose between them but FUTURE INVESTMENT could build on his Newbury second (to an impressive Stoute winner, comfortably dealing with the rest) and gets the vote. My Boy Sepoy, Matewan and Fantastic Blue can also be on the premises.

12:45 bet365 British EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes - Nash Nasha

Charlie Appleby, who has won two of the last three runnings, saddles three of the six contenders and the betting should be informative. Preference is for the yard's NASH NASHA, whose dam is the Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Just The Judge. Stablemate Wedding Dance, the only one of these with experience, is feared most ahead of the William Haggas-trained Lilac Road.

13:15 bet365 Novice Stakes - Al Mutathar

The recent Newmarket win for AL MUTATHAR was encouraging enough to suggest that he can defy the penalty, although it's not forgotten that two dual Group-race winners finished not so far ahead of Declaring Love when she made her only appearance in May last season. Russian Virtue showed striking promise at Newbury and a raft of interesting newcomers include Wirraway, Piranesi and Stunning Beauty.

13:50 bet365 Mile Handicap - Finest Sound

It is hard to knock FINEST SOUND's clear second in what was a strong Britannia and he looks sure to be competitive off this 7lb higher mark, no matter whether he improves again or not. Haqeeqy is hard to evaluate but he has looked good in winning his novices and needs respecting, while the top weight Surf Dancer was showing plenty of spirit before being knocked out of contention at Sandown and he too should be on the premises.

14:25 British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies' Handicap -

The hood is a positive angle for Spring Of Love and Fantail, while Indie Angel commands respect off her unchanged mark. However, this may go to ODYSSEY GIRL who ran well on the AW last Saturday and looks tempting off 4lb lower back on turf, faced with a more suitable scenario than in the Sandringham two outings ago. Second choice is Fantail.

15:00 bet365 Superlative Stakes -

Most of these have shown significant promise but SEVENTH KINGDOM was particularly impressive on his debut at Doncaster and the John Gosden-trained Frankel colt is preferred to Godolphin's Master Of The Seas, whose Rowley Mile debut win has been given a boost by the runner-up. Devious Company, Ballydoyle contender Hudson River, King Zain and Saint Lawrence are others to be interested in.

15:35 Darley July Cup Stakes -

3yos have won the last three runnings which bodes well for GOLDEN HORDE, who won the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot in fine style. Khaadem travelled well when fourth behind Hello Youmzain and Sceptical in the Diamond Jubilee at the same meeting and could be the main danger, provided the ground suits (he may not want it soft). At a bigger price Brando, who has twice been placed in this race, is an interesting each-way option.

16:10 bet365 Bunbury Cup -

Unexposed 4yo MUTAMAASIK fared much the best of the centre group when third to Motakhayyel in the Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and can gain compensation here. The progressive Motakhayyel is also respected but the chief danger could be the sole 3yo, who looked unlucky not to win at Sandown last time. Arigato is thriving and appeared to have more in hand than the winning margin suggested on the Rowley Mile last time out, while the lightly raced Godhead has been going the right way for John Gosden on the AW.
