ITV Racing tips: one key runner from each of the seven races on ITV on Sunday
1.50 Newmarket
Back And Lay On Betfair Exchange Handicap, 1m4f
Zabeel Champion seeks his third consecutive victory for the Mark Johnston yard after putting up smart performances at Ripon. Godolphin's Global Storm contested some big handicaps last season and returns after one run in Dubai while course-and-distance winner Grand Bazaar and the progressive Rodrigo Diaz are also of note.
SPOTLIGHT TIP: Zabeel Champion
An improved performer this year; although up 3lb, he has more to offer at this trip
2.05 Salisbury
AJN Steelstock "Delivering Steel Expertise" City Bowl Handicap, 1m6f
Gumball won this race in 2019 and faces stiff opposition in his defence, including Prince Alex who is seeking a sixth consecutive win. The unexposed Opera Gift was beaten narrowly and is interesting considering he runs in the silks of the track's chairman Jeff Smith.
SPOTLIGHT TIP: Opera Gift
Unraced on firmer than good; otherwise makes appeal resuming as a stayer with potential
2.25 Newmarket
Betfair Pretty Polly Stakes, 1m2f, Listed
Talent and Taghrooda won this race before going onto Oaks glory and that Classic looks the big target for impressive Newmarket debut winner A'Shaari. The once-raced Sea Karats and Thirsk winner Alba Rose also look to take a step closer to Epsom while Lady Hayes won back-to-back races as a juvenile and is an intriguing prospect.
SPOTLIGHT TIP: Alba Rose
Third in Group 2 Rockfel here (good) in September; big pedigree pointer to at least 1m2f
2.40 Hamilton
MansionBet Beaten By A Head Buttonhook Handicap, 1m5f
Ben Lilly has a decent record of seven wins from 15 starts – including victories on his latest two outings at Wolverhampton and Doncaster. Jim Goldie won this race in 2016 and is represented by Nicholas T while Great Esteem makes the long trip from Archie Watson's Lambourn base.
SPOTLIGHT TIP: Morisco
Pleasing reappearance at Thirsk; still relatively lightly raced and could be the answer
3.00 Newmarket
Betfair Dahlia Stakes, 1m1f, Group 2
Queen Power was second in this contest last year and looks to have a fine opportunity of going one better for Sir Michael Stoute. Her opposition include recent Listed scorer Lavender's Blue, and the horse she beat that day Fooraat, while Group 3 winner Lady Bowthorpe is another to watch out for.
SPOTLIGHT TIP: Queen Power
Disappointing when last seen but leading claims on best form (second in this last year)
3.15 Hamilton
MansionBet Best Odds Guaranteed EBF Tangerine Trees Conditions Stakes, 5f
Dragon Symbol is another northern raider for Archie Watson and looking to defend his unbeaten record. The son of Cable Bay was a five-length winner at Kempton and looks the one to beat. Recent second and Burning Cash and Group 3-placed Muker are ones to watch.
SPOTLIGHT TIP: Dragon Symbol
Quickfire hat-trick of 6f AW wins in March/April; may complete four-timer on turf debut
3.40 Newmarket
Qipco 1,000 Guineas Stakes, 1m, Group 1
It's the turn of the fillies to battle it out for Classic glory and much of this race revolves around Aidan O'Brien's big-gambled contender Santa Barbara. She has raced only once, winning a Curragh maiden, but she heads to Newmarket with a mighty reputation. Sacred and Alcohol Free come here having won trials, with the runner-ups from those races Saffron Beach and Statement not ruled out. O'Brien's second string Mother Earth is another leading contender.
SPOTLIGHT TIP: Saffron Beach
Second to Sacred in the Nell Gwyn; should be spot-on for this race; has more to offer
