The going at York is now good to soft, soft in places after 15mm of rain fell on the Knavesmire this morning. The going had been good to firm, good in places overnight.

William Derby, York's clerk of the course, said: "We have had 15mm of rain. I think the course has taken it very well. It is good to soft up the straight and round the bend and soft in places up the top of the 7f chute and on the back stretch.

"The cloud base is lifting and it is due to remain dry from now on then fragment and give sunny spells later in the afternoon."

According to the Met Office's forecast, the afternoon will brighten up with temperatures hitting 20C. The forecast for Thursday and Friday remains dry with sunny spells.
