Tom George: hoping to strike with Brandon Hill at Perth

Phil Nelson Handicap Chase (Class 3) | 5yo+ 0-140 | 3m (2m7f180y) | RUK

Brandon Hill makes the long haul from the Cotswolds to Scotland and will be having his first start since having a second wind operation in this staying handicap chase.

His trainer Tom George is enjoying a fruitful end to the jumps season and his amateur rider son Noel is in the saddle, which means the ten-year-old is in receipt of his valuable 7lb claim.

The trainer said: “Brandon Hill has not been getting home over three miles so we dropped him back half a mile and he was disappointing at Kempton last month, so the decision was made that he should have his wind tinkered with.

“He’s had a wind operation in the past but we thought we might as well give him another one. It’s quite a quick turnaround but he seems well in himself.”

Twiston-Davies back in town

Another trainer heading north is Perth regular Nigel Twiston-Davies, who is sending a raiding party of eight horses to compete over the three-day meeting and he is hopeful Belmount can leave some poor efforts behind in Scotland.

He said: “The horse has as many letters against his name than figures in his recent form but he seems in very good form and we have just got to hope the ground does not get too soft.

“He’s not run for a while but has gone well following breaks in the past.”
