Act Of Wisdom chasing a hat-trick in battle of the juvenile stayers

Act Of Wisdom is on a hat-trick mission in the most valuable race on the traditional all two-year-old card at Newmarket.

The contest, which has attracted a field of ten, is restricted to runners whose sire or dam have won over at least this trip of 1m2f.

Unlike some in the line-up, Act Of Wisdom has won over the trip twice already, most recently when accounting for reopposing pair Genuflex and Parish Academy at Nottingham.

The Charlie Appleby-trained chestnut is up 3lb for that and is expected to handle the soft ground which could get even softer come post time if the local forecast can be believed.

William Haggas won this a year ago with the useful Convict and stablemate Impulsive One bids to follow up after getting off the mark at the fourth time of asking at Bath last time.

Although that was over a mile, the son of Union Rags was not stopping at the finish but he will be encountering different ground this time.

Yet to get his head in front is Oman, who has chased home some decent types of late including subsequent Group 3 winner Lone Eagle at Goodwood in August and he represents Ralph Beckett, who won this two years ago with Skymax.

He's up in the weights but he's a progressive horse who won't mind the ground. He stays very well so hopefully the track will play to his strengths.

It was great that he got his head in front last time having been unlucky previously. It's a more competitive race but he won't mind any dig in the ground and he has experience of a range of tracks which should stand him in good stead on the Rowley Mile.

He's 2lb better off with Act Of Wisdom on their running at Nottingham last time where the step up in trip seemed to suit him. There's no reason why he can't be bang there again.

He's stepping up in trip which hopefully will suit him as he's in the Horses in Training Sale and this will tell us where we are with him.

Michael Bell, trainer of Olympic Theatre
He's up in trip but he's bred to stay on his dam's side and he hit the line strong over a mile last time. Hopefully they don't get too much of the forecast rain.

Milton Harris, trainer of Parish Academy
He ran behind Act Of Wisdom and Genuflex at Nottingham last time and is weighted to get closer this time. He probably wants gelding as he's more of a three-year-old type.
