Who would want to be the chief executive of the BHA?
Reading the candidate brief the BHA has published to accompany the notice advertising the vacancy for chief executive at the governing body, it makes one wonder why anyone would want the job.
And that was before the weekend's revelation that leading trainers Ralph Beckett and Mark Johnston have called for Nick Rust to step down from the role with immediate effect rather than wait until the end of the year to depart as was originally planned.
In its opening pages, the brief warns that British racing is facing "a number of potentially existential threats", of which the coronavirus pandemic and the "huge collateral impact" of the current shutdown is the primary concern, followed by the issues of equine welfare, racehorse fatalities and the use of the whip.
