We were entitled to expect far better from the ITV Racing team

In trying to avoid stooping as low as others in commenting on ITV Racing’s inaugural transmission, the kindest thing I can say is that the coverage would have been acceptable – just – had Channel 4 abruptly sacked IMG Media and brought in on 24 hours’ notice the team they did.

The analysis was far from in-depth, more as thin as a coat of paint. I have not seen Ed Chamberlin before but, on that showing, his knowledge appears inadequate and his view that “things will evolve” shows a disdain for viewers who are entitled to expect far better from everyone involved.

The steadicam work was inept and I shudder at the prospect of ITV bringing Royal Ascot to our homes.
