The sport must work harder to prioritise those who go racing to watch the racing

Do you know what a racing fan looks like? (Aside from your good self, of course.)

A proper racing fan, one who really enjoys the sport, follows it, loves it, cares for it, looks like those many people who sat and stood around York's paddock on Friday and applauded with gratitude and delight as Stradivarius completed two laps of honour.

The same thing happened after the victories of Mishriff, Snowfall and Winter Power. It's not purely a York thing but it does add substance to the oft-repeated view that Yorkshire racegoers are, as a group, the most knowledgeable in Britain. I can't offer any data to support the theory but it's not one with which I would rush to disagree.
