Southwell floodlight move may prove illuminating

It was not that long ago that British racing's fixture list was appearing so late in the year that the ink had barely dried before it came into effect.

However, barring any last-minute hitches we should know what the line-up for 2018 looks like before the end of this month.

It always used to be the case that the fixture list was published in July but things slipped at the start of the decade – the 2012 schedule did not appear until the previous November following wrangles about its size between the BHA, Horsemen's Group, racecourses and bookmakers.
