What did the racing industry and audience expect from ITV Racing? If you do the same old things why would you expect a different result? If 2016 taught us anything with Brexit and Donald Trump it is that people eventually turn off to the same old, same old.

What racing needs is translators to bring the sport to a bigger audience. The racing industry has spoken in Latin to the common man for far too long and it needs a broadcaster not to dumb it down but to provide translators who make the game user-friendly.

The growth of the television audience is key, and this must push on. The viewer is not an idiot, she or he is your wife or husband.
