Relief all round as Sunak plan will rescue those jockeys who need help most

I wrote last week that uncertainty was the great fear facing racing at the moment. For jockeys one huge uncertainty was thankfully put to bed this week – we are going to have some income over the coming weeks.

Rishi Sunak's announcement on Thursday evening that self-employed workers will receive the same sort of financial assistance as that given to salaried workers came as a massive relief to many people. Relief is exactly the right word.

In the current climate, nobody knows what to expect and nobody really knows what to hope for because everything is without precedent. The sort of support package being introduced by the government is certainly unprecedented but it will lift an enormous weight off many shoulders.
