Recompense due where jockeys win by breaking whip rules
The physical nature of Goodwood lends itself to the delivery of drama. That became evident once again in the opening race of last week's festival. There was, however, as much drama after the race as there had been during it.
It is now seven years since British racing first allowed cameras into stewards' inquiries. Indeed it was at Glorious Goodwood that Channel 4 viewers were able to see Tom Queally and Christophe Soumillon offer their personal perspectives on the closing stages of a Nassau Stakes that Queally and the marvellous Midday won and retained.
That was a pretty tame inquiry. The hearing into what those of a certain age will always think of as the Chesterfield Cup was not.
