Panorama will ask tough questions - racing needs to have the right answers

As Bahrain Victorious rider Matej Mohoric approached the finishing line of Friday's 19th Tour de France stage with a clear lead, he first pointed on his shirt to the team's name and then drew a zip-like silencing gesture across his lips. Racing can learn a lesson from his crass actions.

Mohoric was responding to the events of Wednesday night, when French police carried out searches of his team's bus and its riders' Pau hotel rooms following allegations of doping.

Given cycling's uncomfortable history with prohibited substances, the notion anyone in the sport should react with contempt to close inspection seemed misplaced. Mohoric, who like all in his team must be presumed innocent, subsequently claimed the call for silence was linked to the many sacrifices made by professional cyclists. Lance Armstrong no doubt made many sacrifices as well.
