While not wishing to stoop quite so low as the viewing figures Carl Hicks attained as executive producer of Channel 4 Racing, I feel it necessary to respond to the comment made about Big Mac and Derek Thompson (Racing Post, December 27).

Mr Hicks finds them “about as funny as a dose of flu”. This brings to mind the old saying that in order for you to insult me I have to value your opinion.

Just because you chose to look down on the old team does not mean people are looking up to you.
