I was glad the great gamble failed - and true racing fans should have been too
I wonder what side of the fence you were on as we counted down to the 4.25 at Musselburgh on Sunday, with Gallahers Cross, backed down to odds-on from an opening 33-1, attempting to complete the mother of all trebles following victories for the similarly well-punted Fire Away and Blowing Dixie.
It seems I was in a significant minority in wanting the horse to get beaten – which really surprised me.
I understand that people love to see fellow punters getting one over on the bookmakers and in normal circumstances I’m no different. If anyone has ever delved into the form book to find something others had overlooked, found a pattern to a horse’s performances on a particular type of going, or just got their pin out and tried to get lucky, then I couldn’t be happier for them when they enjoy a big win.
