Handicapper's critics over bet365 Gold Cup assessment have got it badly wrong
As if the inquiry into last Saturday’s bet365 Gold Cup had not been interminable enough, it seemed there were plenty of people wanting another inquiry this week into the reaction of the handicapper.
Following Potterman’s controversial victory over first-past-the-post Enrilo and the desperately unlucky Kitty’s Light, Alan King’s chaser got away with just a 1lb rise whereas Enrilo and Kitty’s Light were hit with 4lb extra, which prompted the unfortunate Christian Williams, trainer of Kitty’s Light, to tweet laughing emojis at the apparent absurdity of it all and say he needed a holiday.
I have enormous sympathy for Williams, who has every right to feel extremely hard done by. His horse was desperately unlucky not to land a big prize on Saturday and now his chances of winning another one have been diminished.
