Insight every week from the award-winning commentator

Centrepiece this weekend will be the dual cavalry charges of the William Hill Ayr Gold and Silver Cups, with the annual guessing game as to where it is best to be drawn.

The draw positions for the big race are selected by connections and the initial choices favoured middle to high numbers with the last few out left to take low gates. By the end of Thursday's 5f handicap where the front four were drawn 1-3-7-2 things were already looking a little different.
