Coronavirus crisis ushers in a fight for survival, not a bright new dawn
If you have avoided Covid-19, I fear you will not have escaped the viral load of feelgood philosophy that has been its sweaty, breathless, and equally unwanted bedfellow.
When the world has got a grip on this pandemic, we can only hope that it simultaneously strangulates the creative impulses of the pound-shop poets pebbledashing us with their Instawisdom.
If you have lost a loved one or have been working the front line during the last 12 weeks, do you really need to be told that 2020 is what we all needed to make us better people? If your job or home is suddenly under threat, are you reassured that this is the year that 'forces us to grow'? If you are a primary school teacher remotely nurturing 30 six-year-olds with dodgy Wi-Fi, do you just ho-hum that this was meant to be?
