Over €50,000 has been raised on a Gofundme page set up to help four-time German champion jockey Filip Minarik, who remains in an induced coma following a horrendous racecourse fall.

Minarik suffered head injuries and broke his leg and ankle in a fall when riding at Mannheim this month and has been in an induced coma for three weeks.

Now the family of the Czech-born rider are attempting to raise €100,000 to cover the cost of his treatment and recovery.

Minarik's wife Katja told Galopp Online: "It's a very difficult time, but Filip is in the best hands now. The institute is really very good and I also have my family in Hanover, which also makes it easier to look after our daughter Finja.

"Accurate medical analysis is still a difficult process. Everyone does what they can to do what they can. Filip needs time and a lot of healing power. I don't believe in making any predictions.

"Anyone who is familiar with traumatic brain injuries and coma patients knows that conditions can always change. I know Filip is a fighter, but we all need a lot of time and patience now."

Frankie Dettori has urged his Twitter followers to support the fundraiser for Minarik. He tweeted: "Can we please help our good jockey friend in Germany, Filip Minarik. Thanks everyone and thanks to those who have donated already!"

Minarik, winner of 13 Group 1 races, captained the European team at the Shergar Cup last season, winning on Stone Of Destiny for Andrew Balding.
