More watering at Ascot as Stickels seeks to maintain good to form for day four
Ascot clerk of the course Chris Stickels on Thursday evening embarked on another round of irrigation in order to maintain good to firm ground for the fourth day of the royal meeting.
Prior to inspecting the track Stickels was expecting to put 4mm of water on the track to replace moisture lost through evaporation during a warm and sunny day.
Stickels said: "It has been a drying day today and the breeze has probably dried the course out a bit more than yesterday.
"Friday should be maybe 21C or 22C, while Saturday could be a little hotter at around 23C."
