Fridays at Newbury should always be savoured and today is no exception, with the Philip Hobbs-trained Village Vic perhaps the standout name on the card.

The 12-year-old is slightly longer in the tooth now and it will be interesting to monitor how he fares on his first outing of the season under part-owner David Maxwell in the 2m7½f hunter chase (5.35).

Other notable names on the card include Dashel Drasher, who looks one of trainer Jeremy Scott's best youngsters for some time and contests the 2m4½f novice hurdle (1.45), and Nube Negra, who was a smart juvenile last season and tackles the 2m½f handicap hurdle (4.30).

There are four other cards to attack, with jumping at Musselburgh and three Flat meetings at Lingfield, Dundalk and Newcastle.
