Blink and you will probably miss Kachy, who has breezed to success in two starts since a wind operation this winter and rates a hot-favourite in the Sprint Final for Tom Dascombe and Richard Kingscote.

A Group 3 winner on the turf, his form on the all-weather this winter has been sizzling, first running out a wide-margin winner in course-record time at Wolverhampton in December, before lowering the track record from the front over Friday's course and distance in February.

Despite a wide draw last time, he pinged the gates and was able to get to the inside rail long before his rivals, from where his blistering speed had his opponents chasing shadows.

He again has stall eight to overcome and it is worth remembering he was a beaten favourite when second in this race 12 months ago, but there has been an air of invincibility about the six-year-old this time around and trainer Tom Dascombe is quite rightly confident of settling last year's score.

"Since having a wind operation he's broken two track records so you'd have to say it's significantly helped him," said Dascombe.

"Because he's finding breathing easier perhaps he's more willing. He's stopped hanging, he's stopped drifting and he's going forward more effectively. Fingers crossed he goes one better than last year."

Forza Capitano is out to give France back-to-back wins following City Light's win 12 months ago, when Kachy was uncharacteristically slow from the stalls. A repeat, especially from his wide draw, would certainly make life difficult.

"Generally speaking he's sharp from the stalls," said Dascombe. "He's odds-on favourite in the right race. All he has to do is jump out and get into his rhythm – hopefully he's the best horse in the race and shows it."

What they say

David Marnane, trainer of Alfredo Arcano
Kachy will be hard to beat, but you can't be afraid of one runner. Our horse is smart out of the gates, he travels, stays well and seems to relax a bit better these days. He's very smart around a bend on the all-weather and Lingfield has been the plan since Dundalk. I think the track could suit him well.

Robert Cowell, trainer of Encore D'Or
It was an unusually lacklustre run last time but the tests we've done since haven't shown anything. Kachy will be hard to beat but hopefully we can slip into a place.

Hugo Palmer, trainer of Encrypted
If the best version of Kachy turns up then everyone else is running for second. Our horse is in good form and has drawn the rail, and I think he must have a good chance of being second.

Richard Fahey, trainer of George Bowen
He’s in good form but he’s got the favourite to beat. Kachy’s been very impressive and I wouldn’t wish it on him, but he needs not to turn up for George Bowen to beat him.

John Ryan, trainer of Merhoob
He's in great order. Musselburgh didn't really suit last time but his form around Lingfield is fantastic and I think James Doyle will suit the horse.

Stuart Williams, trainer of Royal Birth
On form we've no chance of beating Kachy but we're hoping to pick up some place money. We've got a decent draw, a good jockey and he's in very good form.

Andrew Balding, trainer of Stone Of Destiny
He has some good bits of form, but has a fair bit to find with Kachy. We are happy with him, there is good prize-money so we hope he can nick a place.
