Juddmonte puzzle the start of a fantastic week of action
Today Europe's top horse kicks off one of the Flat's most treasured meetings by running in the race officially ranked the third best in the world. As spectacular beginnings go, even Rio's opening ceremony might struggle to compete with that.
In recent times the Juddmonte International has firmly established its reputation as one of the greatest middle-distance events on the planet, with the likes of Sea The Stars, Frankel and Australia all victorious in recent seasons, and early this year international handicappers gave the race an average three-year winner rating of 122.67, behind only the Arc and Breeders' Cup Classic. This year's field is unlikely to detract from that lofty standing.
Leading the way is Postponed, the highest-rated mile-and-a-half campaigner anywhere and already Europe's leading racehorse. His connections would aspire to substitute the word 'Europe' for the world and victory in today's race would be a crucial step on the road to global supremacy.
