William Buick delighted to be back on course but unsure about return to action
William Buick offered a positive update on his recovery from injury on Tuesday but has yet to set a date for his return to riding.
The Godolphin jockey has been sidelined since last month with post head-injury syndrome sustained after falling from his horse on the way to the start at Ascot.
Buick, 30, returned to Ascot on Tuesday as part of the Godolphin team and embraced trainer Charlie Appleby when Blue Point, whom he rode to success at the meeting last year, landed a second successive King’s Stand Stakes, this time under James Doyle.
He said: "I feel good and I've been getting out a good bit to the gym and to the yard. I'm delighted to be here, although it's different to what I'm used to.
"Charlie kindly asked me to come along and help out and it's good to be able to come here and support the team."
Buick's popularity within racing was underlined by the large number of people who stopped and talked to him at Ascot, but the rider is not rushing his return with medical assessment needed before then.
"It's been so nice to have as many well wishers as I've had; it really means a lot to me," he said. "I don't know yet [when I'll be back] and I don't want to put a date on it. I have to see the doctors and see what they think before coming back."
