'Maybe not' - Aidan O'Brien reveals Coronation Stakes quandary for Peaceful

Aidan O'Brien has not ruled out a quick Royal Ascot turnaround for Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Peaceful, but the Ballydoyle trainer is leaning towards missing Saturday's Coronation Stakes with the Group 1 heroine.

Peaceful was one of 11 left in the mile Group 1 at Monday's six-day entries stage, but a decision on the daughter of Galileo's participation in the race will be made later in the week following her victory at the Curragh on Saturday.

O'Brien said on Monday: "We left Peaceful in the Coronation on Saturday, but at the moment I would say it is a maybe not rather than a maybe.

"She came out of the Curragh in good shape and Chloe and Jamie who look after her have been very happy with her for the last two mornings.

"We'll see how she is over the next couple of days and make a decision then. It's a pity the two races are so close together, but that's the way it is and we'll make a decision later in the week."

O'Brien has plenty of other options for the race, with Peaceful one of four entries for the yard. Elfin Queen, Love Locket and So Wonderful are the other possibles.

Ascot Saturday entries

Quadrilateral could run for Roger Charlton after losing her unbeaten record in the Qipco 1,000 Guineas, with Cloak Of Spirits, who finished runner-up to Love at Newmarket, entered for Richard Hannon.

The Coronation Stakes is one of three Group 1s on the final day of Royal Ascot, with the St James's Palace and Diamond Jubilee the other highlights.

Ten entries have been made for the St James's Palace, headlined by Pinatubo, who will bid to bounce back after being defeated for the first time in the Qipco 2,000 Guineas.

Trainer Charlie Appleby understandably retains faith in last season's champion two-year-old, and said: "Naturally, you are always disappointed when you lose that unbeaten tag but I take the positive out of a negative and the positives are that he went down on his sword and that last year he improved with each run. Any improvement going forward from the Guineas and they have got him to beat."

Appleby, who was speaking to Qipco British Champions Series, thinks Pinatubo can set the record straight throughout the rest of the season, and added: "He would not be the first good horse to be beaten in the Guineas who has gone to great things as a three-year-old and I'm confident he is up where we need him to be and that he will go into the St James’s Palace in good order.”

Pinatubo could face Positive and Threat, who are yet to run this season, while Aidan O'Brien is mob-handed with Arizona, Fort Myers, Royal Dornoch, San Pedro and Wichita.

Hello Youmzain is one of 12 entries for the Diamond Jubilee, along with Dream Of Dreams and The Tin Man.
